It's been a long time....

I almost forgot that we had this blog started about our sewing ministry at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. While the blog hasn't been doing too well, our ministry is growing. We have sent clothing to Brazil and Guatemala, made bibs for hospice and disabled children, distributed Christmas stockings to the residents of assisted living centers, and had wonderful fellowship.

We are preparing for our first evening meeting on November 9, 2010 in the Fellowship Suite at the church with the hope that some of the ladies who miss our activities because they are at work will join us. We're planning a light meal of soup or chili and dessert as well as additional items. Our purpose is to introduce our guests to our activities so we will have decorating of Christmas stockings and ornaments, tying quilts and sewing prepared for them.

Recently, our ministry sent over 230 outfits for children to Guatemala. These items included dresses, shorts, decorated T-shirts that say "Jesus loves me" in Portuguese, rompers, skirts, tops, and onesies. Most of the children live in small huts with dirt floors. The best ones are built of cement blocks while others are made of corn stalks or similar materials. These people are truly among the world's most poor. It is our prayer that through the gift of our sewn items that these people will receive the richest gift of all, Jesus Christ, as their personal Lord and Savior.

Our quilts are made from the abundance of leftover material which we have from our dressmaking task. Most of them measure about 36" x 42" and are patchwork patterns. We use a polyester fleece and a cotton/polyester backing and sew them up in a closed pillowcase fashion so we do not have to put a binding on them. We will use crochet thread to tie the layers together which will produce a very nice lap quilt. It will be fun as always to see where the Lord wants us to share our quilts. Our greatest blessing in this ministry is to see how the Lord provides for our sewing needs and guides us. We hope that we will always be acting according to His Will and for His purpose.

Here's hoping the future brings more entries to this blog!!
