Display table at church

Posted by PicasaMarie made a beautiful display for Every Stitch a Prayer at our church last Sunday.
Quite a few people stopped by to look and talk to us about our ministry.
They were quite impressed with the things that were going to Brazil.

Join us!

Join us at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
We meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month,
starting at 10:00 a.m. until we're ready to go home.....
usually around 3:00 p.m. Bring your lunch and bring
a friend! You don't need to know how to sew. We need
people to turn, clip, and press items and for many other
tasks. Most of all, come to enjoy the fellowship!

Call the church office for more information.

Ready for Brazil

It's May! It's time for us to be wrapping up our sewing project for the children in Brazil. We're right on track and enjoying the last minute hustle and bustle. We expect to have over 75 dresses, even more shorts and skirts with decorated T-shirts, along with donated items. We're especially excited about the 300 panties and lingerie items that were donated by SaraMax Apparel Group in Arkansas. That's like icing on the cake!

The people are so poor that the Mission Team members wear their clothes during the week and leave what they've worn with the people in the village along with their suitcases. They literally come home with the shirt on their back. What an awesome ministry!

Now we're moving on. We will be working on items for hospice and nursing homes. Hospice asked us to make some adult bibs so that will be our first project. While making our clothing for Brazil, we generated a lot of cotton scraps. These will be used for the neckpiece and crumb pocket. The body of the bib will be 1/6 of a large cotton towel. We found that we can make a bib with a large towel cheaper than using terry cloth yardage which seems very overpriced in today's market. By using the towel, each bib costs only 55 cents.

Our group is growing and donations are coming in. We're so thankful for everyone's help and generosity. We hope to become a ministry that works year around to help meet the needs of the poor as the Lord directed us.

Getting started

Welcome!

Welcome to the new blog for Every Stitch a Prayer at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. We are so excited about the opportunities available for our sewing and crafting ministry. Our first project involves making dresses, shorts, skirts, and decorated T-shirts for children in Brazil. Several members of our church are going to Brazil in June for a church building project and will take the items to the pastor of the new church. They will be distributed to many children who live in the very hot weather of Brazil in simple huts with dirt floors. It is our desire to show the people of Brazil the love of Christ through these simple gifts.

Our newly formed group will meet in room B101 at Taylor Road Baptist Church every second and fourth Tuesday starting on March 10, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Bring your lunch and plan to stay for the day. Or come for a short time. We'll be sure to keep you busy!

The dress project is only the beginning. We hope to expand in the future to other ministries using our sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafting skills. This ministry is not only for people with experience with these crafts but also for those who want to learn. There are many tasks in our present project that do not require sewing skills. Please come if you're interested in food, fun, and fellowship.

May many come to know Jesus as their personal Savior as a result of this ministry.
